Summary:
Did you ever hear the one about the man with a string of bad luck? For Will, the worst is still to come. Sick, grieving, and desperate, he corners his best friend Barry—who just so happens to be monstrously successful—and demands a confession: has Barry been draining all the luck right out of him, like blood? As the standoff at gunpoint unfolds, truths spill, tensions rise, and not everything that comes out will be human.
Jason Mott’s Best of Luck is part of Creature Feature, a collection of creepy little nightmares designed to be devoured in a single sitting.
Review:
Whew. Just—whew. Jason Mott managed to absolutely floor me in under 30 pages. Best of Luck is tight, tense, and twisted in all the best ways. One minute you think you know where it’s going, and the next—bam!—you’re questioning everything.
The creeping dread had me hooked from page one, and the escalating confrontation between Will and Barry is pure horror gold. If you’re a fan of The Thing or Stephen King’s knack for everyday terror that spirals into the unthinkable, this one’s going to hit just right.
I read it in one go (you kinda have to), and I swear I made at least three completely unflattering “WTF just happened?!” faces in public. No regrets. This is a dark, sharp little gut punch of a story that proves horror doesn’t need 500 pages to completely wreck you.
If you’re craving a short but unforgettable chill, Best of Luck delivers. 5/5, no hesitation.
Have you read Best of Luck or dipped into the Creature Feature collection yet? Which creepy tale messed with your head the most?
