Summary:
Looking at real estate isn’t usually life-or-death… until a failed bank robber bursts into an open house and takes a group of strangers hostage. Among the captives: a retired couple avoiding their own marital truths, a wealthy but detached banker, a young couple expecting their first child, an eighty-seven-year-old fearless woman, a flustered real estate agent, and a mystery man hiding in the bathroom. Each has secrets, grievances, and passions ready to explode. Humor, compassion, and humanity collide in this story about friendship, forgiveness, and hope.
Review:
I loved this book. The characters are delightfully quirky and unique, and Fredrik Backman’s writing style had me laughing out loud multiple times (fair warning: public reading may look suspicious 😅).
The alternating format between police interviews and the story unfolding is sheer genius—it keeps you hooked while slowly peeling back layers of each character. And that ending… wow. I definitely stayed up until 2 a.m., laughing, crying, and feeling all the feelings. Happy tears, heavy emotions, and everything in between.
✨ Anxious People is a masterclass in humor, heart, and human connection. If you want a story that’s hilarious, tender, and unforgettable, this one is a must-read.
