Summary:
Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree is a low-stakes fantasy that trades epic battles for cinnamon rolls, steaming mugs of coffee, and second chances. It follows Viv, a battle-worn orc who hangs up her sword and opens a coffee shop in a city that’s never even heard of coffee. With the help of quirky new friends, she discovers that sometimes the bravest adventure is starting over.
Review:
This book was like getting a warm hug in story form—and honestly, who doesn’t need that every now and then? I adored Legends & Lattes (and its prequel Bookshops & Bonedust) for the cozy vibes, the found-family dynamics, and the quiet bravery of Viv choosing to build a new life. The writing is tender without being overly sweet, and the slow-burn romance? Chef’s kiss.
So why not a full five stars? Honestly, because I’m greedy. I wanted more time with these characters, more depth in their relationships, and just more of that soft magic Baldree sprinkles everywhere. But maybe that lingering longing is the real magic—it keeps the story alive in your head long after you’ve closed the book.
On a personal note, I read this during the LA fires in January 2025, and one line stopped me cold:
“WHAT FLAMES COULD NOT CONSUME, NEVER SHALL BE EXTINGUISHED.”
I straight-up sobbed. That reminder of resilience and hope in the middle of chaos hit me harder than I can explain.
If you want a story that’s cozy, heartwarming, and quietly powerful—this is it. Legends & Lattes celebrates second chances, chosen family, and the beauty of building something with love (and a side of cinnamon rolls).

Mild fantasy violence, past trauma, grief/loss — but overall a gentle, healing read.
